Nutrition can be a minefield of information
The basic principle is to consume foods that assimilate light and the closer to the time it is picked and location where it has absorbed the light of the sun and photosynthesized the better. In other words food that is as close to the plate that you eat it from with as little alteration from its natural state as possible.
Many of the digestive juices that break down food and help the absorption of nutrients and minerals into the body happen and exist in the mouth so even the act of how you eat is important in the benefits of what you are eating. Generally chewing the food more than normal is good, so that is it mostly liquid that you are swallowing. (The same principle applies for chewing your saliva when breathing deep as it combines qi/chi with digestive juices and helps qi to enter into the digestive tract and the blood system more directly than assimilating it through breath alone)
A time old saying of “Trust your gut instinct” is very much at home here. If you don’t feel like eating raw food because you are in a cold climate or want to eat something that has been suggested to be avoided for whatever situation of health you find yourself in then go ahead, eat it (with the exception to sugar which was aptly coined in the film Men in Black as one of the most dangerous things in the universe).
There is much wisdom in fasting too. Digestion can demand the full attention of the body at the expense of far more healing attributes. Pausing this time and energy consuming action allows much magic to happen. The nature of the human body is to heal itself.
As we are mostly water vibrating at various levels of density the quality of the water that you drink and the type is highly recommended to be researched well.
The effects of hydration on both the electrical system, the nervous system and the overall health of the organs are important to the flowing function of the entire system.
Over hydration can lead to washing out of vitamins and minerals so again the consumption of quality and understanding of how to achieve a balance in the body is key. Some people who have faster metabolisms may require a litre or two more a day than someone with a slow metabolism.
This is where a daily energy practice comes in where internal observation becomes second nature and a knowing of how each organ, body part and brain is functioning and adjusting both the intake of nutrients and hydration according to the internal observation.
Nutrition is a very important part of the way but no more important than the way you think or the way you breathe or the way you move. Equanimity of respect in all fields is part of the way.
